Cape Town is one of those cities that’s famed for its hospitality, glorious beaches, enchanting vineyards and iconic backdrops. Cape Town also has one of the liveliest cultural scenes in Africa – trendy bars, stylish bars, Beach Bars and excellent restaurants. The people are open-minded and relaxed and with the lingering hours of summer sunlight there is plenty of time to celebrate one of the Cape’s finest traditions – “sundowners”. This is something entirely satisfying about ending your day with colourful cool cocktail in hand while a magnificent sunset dips into the ocean in front of you.
For those not in the know in South Africa we have a lovely tradition called ” sundowners” This is a time, conveniently at cocktail hour, when the whole country stops and salutes the setting of the sun. You’ll hear people making plans to meet up ‘for sundowners’ or asking ‘What’re you doing for sundowners?’ It’s just part of the fabric of South African social life. And a handy excuse to gather and drink martinis- especially in Cape Town.
After hours of “Dedicated Research” , Cape Point Route has compiled an entirely subjective list of where to sip those summer cocktails in the south peninsula. As always we acknowledge this list is not entirely comprehensive and does not cover other areas of Cape Town so don’t be mad with us… it’s our list and our ‘hood – this is where we work, live and play and this is what we do and where we go!
