Life’s a Beach on the Cape Point Route

Imagine a bed next to the beach and sand between your toes. Imagine sushi after a surf lesson. Imagine a sunrise swim with Penguins and a deep soft tissue massage after shipwreck scuba diving.  Or just a walk on the beach after a seafood lunch…?

You can imagine , it or you can choose to immerse yourself in it on the Cape Point Route.

The long sandy beach of Hout Bay is ideal for swimming and water sports like Sea Kayaking, Sailing, Fishing, Duiker Island Boat Trips and Surfing.  Here you will see locals walking their dogs, riding horses and families playing at the waters edge.

This pristine stretch of white sandy beach, often called Long Beach, stretches through to Kommetjie.  Noordhoek beach is ideal for long leisurely beach walks, surfing, kitesurfing and horse-riding, or watching the sunset from Cape Point Vineyards.

The stretch from Kommetjie to Noordhoek is surfing paradise.  Endless beach walks at sunrise or sunset or simply hanging out for sundowners. Watch marine birdlife or spring into action with kite surfing or horse riding.  Make sure to look out for the Cape Clawless Otter.

Scarborough is an excellent beach for walking, reflecting, playing with kids or bird watching.  A glorious location for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing! Scarborough is also a popular fishing area but permits are required as the area is part of a marine protected area.

BuffelsBay and Bordjiesdrif beaches in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve both offer picnicking, swimming, tidal pools, walking, bird and whale watching.  The Reserve is popular for day and overnight hikes.  The Shipwreck Trail is well worth it!

Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town has become famous for its thriving colony of African Penguins.. Giant granite boulders protect the beach area – perfect for safe swimming and one of the best family beaches in the world.

Simon’s Town has several beaches to choose from….Millers Point is a family friendly recreational area with a tidal pool, snorkeling, scuba diving and a boat launching slipway.  Fisherman’s Beach with its grassy slopes is a small secluded family beach in Murdoch valley, and finally Seaforth Beach is an ideal family setting, natural swimming bay and picnic lawn.

Fish Hoek Beach is one of the most popular family beaches. It’s ideal for body boarding and has a play park, bistro and path to Sunny Cove. Fish Hoek beach sailing club hosts the Hobie Cat Sailing Club.

Colourful bathing boxes are the trademark of  St James Beach and the start of grand stone houses that line the road to Muizenberg. The sheltered beach and safe tidal pool makes this a favourite for families with young kids.

A 36km stretch of beach with kid friendly waves. Muizenberg beach offers family fun with safe swimming and a pavilion with pools and a waterslide.   Surf shops at Surfers’ Corner in Muizenberg hire out gear for surfing, kitesurfing, stand up paddling .  Surfing lessons are available in Muizenberg.
