Father’s Day Ideas for 17 June 2012

Father’s Day is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in June in South Africa so this year Sunday the 17 June 2012 is the date for Father’s Day.  All over the world this celebration is an opportunity to thank father’s and pay tribute to fatherhood and the paternal role father’s play in our society.

If you’ve done the t-shirt, bought the socks and the aftershave, then think out the box and do something fun with your dad –and seal the paternal bond between you and your dad this Father’s Day with time together. FATHER’S DAY FEASTING: Take Dad for a bite to eat.

If your Father has a little of the Captain in him – why not do the Ahoy Sailor thing and give him a seafood extravaganza on Father’s Day at Mariner’s Wharf. Mariner’s Wharf is the first harbourfront emporium in Africa at either the Wharfside Grill restaurant (breakfast, lunch or dinner) and try the lobster, game fish, prawns, curries and even steaks and salads! FATHER’S DAY DOWN UNDER: Submerge your Dad in a submarine
Take your Father down under with a submarine visit in Simon’s Town. Retired naval officers will take you into the SAS Assegaai – which has been converted into a floating museum. This 1972 French-built submarine was decommissioned in November 2003 – she is 57.8 m long with a beam of 6.8m and a surface displacement of 870t and 1045t when dived. You won’t be one of the 6 officers or 45 crew members she used to carry but you will get to go through the vertical steel ladder in maximum groups of 10. The tour takes approximately 60 minutes and departs from Simon’s Town station and costs R40 for adults. More…

FATHER’S DAY SEA FISHING: Bag a big one with Dad!
