Long Weekends – a popular term in South Africa (& many Western Countries) for a weekend that is at least 3 days long, due to a public holiday falling on a Friday or a Monday. These weekends are popular times to get-away and book a mini break from the day-to-day routine. South Africans are exceptionally good at taking advantage of these mini breaks to explore the country but it does mean that these long weekends become peak travel periods.
It’s a good idea to book a mini break for a long weekend early so as to avoid disappointment. There are 3 long weekends coming up in South Africa in March and April 2014 and with school holidays in the mix across the country from 28 March – 6 April 2014, it’s the perfect opportunity for families to escape too!
- Long Weekend #1: Friday 21 March is Human Rights Day so you get Fri 21 March – Sun 23 March 2014
- Long Weekend #2: Friday 18 April is Good Friday and Monday 21 April is Family Day so Fri 18 – Mon 21 April is a 4-day long weekend and called the Easter Weekend.
- Long Weekend #3: Sunday 27 April is Freedom Day so Mon 28th April is a national holiday due to the public holiday falling on a Sunday.
